The United Kingdom Immigration Program
What is the UK migration program?
The main method for immigrants to enter the UK to work, study, or train is through the points-based visa system (formerly known as the five-tier visa system).
Most individuals must pass a points-based assessment before they can get permission to work in the UK. You must reach a points score above a minimum threshold if your application is to be successful. The quantity of points a person needs and how the points are awarded vary depending on the types of visas that are available through the points-based immigration system.
What kinds of immigrant visas are there?
The UK visa points-based system consists of the following:
Visa type | Description of work |
Tier 1 Visa | This category of visa is for “high-value” investor immigrants who can contribute £2 million to the UK economy. The sole visa category falling under the “Tier 1 visa” at the moment is the investment scheme. The Tier 1 visa does not include the Global Talent, UK Innovator, or Start-Up visas. |
UK Work Visa | Skilled workers from outside the EEA who have a job offer from a UK firm with a sponsor licence are eligible for this. |
Tier 3 Visa | This category, which was once intended for low-skilled employees filling certain short-term labour needs, is no longer in existence. |
Student Visa | This category, which was formerly known as the Tier 4 visa, is for international students who want to study in the UK. Before applying, candidates must be accepted into a UK educational institution with a sponsor licence. |
Temporary Work Visa | This category replaces the similar Tier 5 visa scheme and contains six sub-tiers of temporary workers including creative and sporting, charitable, and religious sectors as well as the youth mobility program, which allows about 55,000 young people per year to work in the UK on working holidays. |
Some other UK visas fall outside of the five tiers, which are:
- UK Visitor Visas: For people who enter the UK as a visitor, whether for business or pleasure
- UK Family Visas: Whether you want to bring your family to the UK, or join a family member already living there, this section covers the main UK visa options for families.
- UK Business Visas: This section covers a number of long-term business visas that fall outside of the UK visa points-based system.
