The New Zealand migration program does not discriminate and is open to anyone from any country regardless of their ethnic origin, gender, color, or religion, provided they meet the criteria set out in law.

What kinds of immigrant visas are there?
Depending on whether you want to work, study, invest, or just visit, New Zealand provides a variety of visa alternatives. The first step in applying for any visa is to determine the categories that are open to you and their fundamental requirements. Here is a brief breakdown of visa categories:

Visitor Visa | Visit as a tourist, see friends and family, or do business |
Working Holiday Visa | Travel New Zealand while working part-time to fund travels |
Essential Work Visa | Live and work in New Zealand temporarily |
Skilled Migrant Residence Visa; Investor Category Visa, Family Category Residence Visa | Live and work in New Zealand permanently |
To live in New Zealand, you can apply to one these following types of visas:
- Partnership: Your partner is a New Zealand resident or citizen
- Skilled Migrant: You have specialist skills or work in an occupation on a skills shortage list
- Family: You have a close family connection to New Zealand
- Investor: You have at least NZ$3 million to invest in New Zealand
- Entrepreneur: You wish to buy or set up a business in New Zealand
- Talent (Accredited Employer): Work Visa
If you have a qualification comparable to what New Zealand employers expect, you can work here temporarily or permanently. Here are the types of visas you can apply to work in New Zealand:
- Skilled Migrant: You have specialist skills or work in an occupation on a skills shortage list
- Essential Skills: You have skills that employers are unable to find in the local labour market
- Work to Residence: You have specialist skills that allow you to work in New Zealand for 2 years before applying for residency
- Student: You wish to go to school or acquire training while working part-time
- Working Holiday: You wish to holiday and work part-time (ages 18 to 30 or 35, depending on country of origin)
- Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa

Am I eligible for the migration program?
You are eligible to come to New Zealand if you are:
- a NZ citizen
- a NZ permanent resident or resident visa holder
- an Australian citizen or permanent residence visa holder where NZ is your primary place of residence
- a partner or dependent child of an NZ citizen or resident and hold a visa based on your relationship
- an individual with border exceptions or a critical purpose reason to travel (you will need a Critical Purpose Visitor Visa)
- you are a critical and skilled worker – from 21 March
- you are a fully vaccinated traveler from a visa-waiver country – from 1 May
- a New Zealand visa holder, including visitor and student visa – this date has just been brought forward from October to the end of July 2022.
