UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM

What is the United States Citizenship program?

Significant perks, rights, and privileges come with U.S. citizenship. People will make great sacrifices in order to immigrate to the United States and apply for citizenship. The Migration Policy Institute’s senior fellow claims that citizenship is a “very, very valuable commodity.” Our Citizenship Cost Calculator can show you how much you will save over your lifetime by becoming a U.S. citizen if you are a permanent resident. Although the majority of Americans are citizens by birth, there are various methods to become U.S. citizens for foreign nationals.

There are basically four methods to become a citizen of the United States: citizenship by birth in the U.S., citizenship through derivation, citizenship through acquisition, and citizenship through naturalization. The majority of immigrants to the US go through the naturalization process to become citizens. In actuality, about a million permanent residents on average apply for citizenship every year.

Am I eligible for citizenship by investment program?

If you are living in the US with a Green Card and want to become a citizen, then there are specific US citizenship requirements.

To become a US citizen you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old when you file the application.
  • Be a Green Card holder for at least 5 years.
  • Have continuous residence in the US for at least 5 years before you file the application.
  • You must have lived physically in the US for at least 30 months from the 5 years that you have had the Green Card.
  • Prove that you have lived in the state you are applying for at least 3 months.
  • Be able to speak, read, and write basic English.
  • Understand US history and government.
  • Show that you respect the US Constitution.
  • Be a person of good moral character, which means you have not committed any serious crimes.

If you do not fulfill any of these requirements for citizenship, then you are not allowed to apply. Applications must go through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Even if you apply without meeting the American citizenship requirements, USCIS will deny it.

How to Apply for US Citizenship?

Make sure you are not already a citizen of the US before you begin your application. You might already be a citizen if you were born in the US or overseas to US parents and do not even need to apply. You only need to submit Form N-600, Application for Certificate of Citizenship, or N-600K, Application for Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate if one of your parents is a citizen of the United States.

To apply for US citizenship you must go through these simple steps:

  • Complete and submit Form N-400, Application for Naturalization: You should use this form as your main submission for citizenship or naturalization. Fill out the form according to the directions, then sign it. If you reside outside of the United States, include two passport-style images with it.
  • Give your biometric information: USCIS may ask you for biometric data if they need to run a background check on you. Your appointment time, date, and location will be listed in the communication from USCIS. You must arrive at the scheduled time. There, they will take your photo and ask for your fingerprints.
  • Complete the citizenship by naturalization interview: When you go to the interview, a USCIS officer will ask questions about your application and background. You must answer truthfully and accurately.
  • Complete the English language test: You will have to pass the three-section English test, which includes speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Complete the civics test: This test is on the history and values of the US. The officer will ask 10 questions and you must answer 6 of them correctly.
  • Receive the decision of USCIS: USCIS will reach a determination after reviewing the application and the interview’s outcomes. They will send a notice, which might either be an approval or a denial of the citizenship application.
  • Take the Oath of Allegiance: You can take the oath only from a judge in a court. After you complete it, you receive the Certification of Naturalization. When you receive this certification, you are officially a US citizen and must return your Green Card.
